*Cruising to the Bahamas

One of the most popular cruise destinations are the Bahamas. One of the reasons that the Bahamas are such a popular cruise destination is that they are located just seventy-five kilometers from the US mainland. This means that the travellers can reach their destination quite quickly.
The Bahamas are an excellent cruise retreat for people who only have a time for a very short vacation. The other reason so many Americans take a cruise to the Bahamas is that the cruise is usually less expensive than other options.
The Bahamas are a part of U.S. territory so the political climate tends to be quite predictable. When you are thinking about taking a Bahaman cruise you should know that most Bahaman cruises sail from Florida. You will have to add the cost of getting yourself to Florida to the cost of your vacation.
There are over seven hundred smallish islands that make up the Bahamas. Approximately fifty of the seven hundred islands are actually inhabited. Most of the major cruise lines make use of two ports, Nassau and Freeport
Nassau
If you are taking a cruise on a cruise line that likes to use Nassau, you will be sailing directly into the capital city. Nassau is located on Providence Island. Providence is a great Island to visit when you are only going to be in the Bahamas for one or two days. Nassau was established as a city around the turn of the 19th century. Many of the colonial style mansions that were built in the early 1900's are still standing.
While you are in Nassau, you should make sure that you make your way to the downtown Parliament Square. When you are in the square, you will be able to see a breathtaking display of architecture all around you. A huge marble statue of Queen Victoria serves as a reminder of the days when the Bahamas were a part of the British Empire.
Freeport
If you are able to stay in the Bahamas for more than one day you should pick a cruise that will stop in Freeport. This city is an amazing place to visit. The shopping in Freeport is duty free, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs, and you should be able to find anything that you heart desires in Freeport's ten acre bazaar. When you have finished shopping you should take advantage of the city's numerous casinos and nightclubs.
