Finding a cheap hotel in New York is probably one of the toughest challenges a person can give you. The blatant truth is that hotels in New York are anything but cheap. You'll find magnificent hotels, opulent rooms, great views and possibly fantastic service, but cheap is not something we usually associate with New York City hotels. So how are we going about finding cheap hotels in New York?

New York Prices in Perspective

Cheap in New York is a relative measure for sure. A five star hotel in New York may cost anything up to a thousand dollars a night. So if you find a good five star at $300, you may well call that cheap! Along the same lines, a four star hotel below $200 is a steal for New York standards, so this is how you have to evaluate your options for a trip to the Big Apple.

Cheap Hotels

If you want to spend less, that's very well possible. Two and three star hotels can be found in the range from $100 an up. If you want to stay below $100, you'll probably have to stick with hostels and one star hotels. Another option is to stay further out of the city center, for instance to the northern part of Manhatten, or stay away from Manhattan altogether.

Strategize your Budget

New York is an expensive place to stay at. But good options are available across the board. It it of key importance that you strategize your budget, with the knowledge you've gained about the cost of the various categories of hotels. You may well end up staying in that five star, but staying one or two nights shorter, or you may downgrade one or two stars, and pay less for the inteded lenght of stay. Whatever choice you make, pick the right hotel for you, compare prices, book and forget about what you paid. Just make sure you enjoy this magnificent city!
