Seaside Charm in Corpus Christi, TX

Corpus Christi, TX

Sometimes referred to as the Sparkling City by the Sea, Corpus Christi is a seaside destination in Southern Texas. Founded in 1839, the city not only boasts beautiful beaches, but plenty of historical attractions. Gorgeous scenery is the real draw for guests. Coastal vistas, scenic lakes, and more await those who flock to this Texas town.

History Comes Alive

This is one city that will allow you to envision the past. The USS Lexington, one of the most famous WWII aircraft carriers, has been turned into a waterborne museum. Explore forty-eight years of military history onboard this 16-story powerhouse vessel. Wander around the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. Enticing exhibits include artifacts from a 1554 shipwreck, a section devoted to kids, and recreations of Columbus’ ships. Fans of the slain singer can witness relics of her life and career at the Selena Museum.

Sandy Beaches and Bird Watching

The shore that surrounds the city is the main attraction for visitors. A fabulous place to spend a lazy day is the Padre Island National Seashore. With 70 miles of sugar-sanded glory, this white stretch of shoreline boasts huge dunes and a wildlife reserve. Participate in activities such as windsurfing, bird-watching, and camping when you venture here.

Bird watchers will take great pleasure in visiting Lake Texana State Park, as will wildlife lovers of all types. The park is home to many species including alligators, deer, bobcats, and turkey. Nestled in a pretty pecan and oak woodland, the park provides opportunities for swimming, hiking, and boating.

Brilliant bird watching is available near the campsites of Laguna Madre. The Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail is truly a bird lover’s paradise. A highway with 310 birding stops, observation platforms, and informative kiosks, this road attracts flocks of ornithology enthusiasts. One last stop for birders is the Port Aransas Birding Center, which also falls on the route of many species’ migrations.

Off the Beaten Path

Wander away from the typical fare offered in Corpus Christi for a walk on the wild side. Tame your inner stallion at King Ranch, one of the oldest working ranches in the country. As the birthplace of Santa Gertrudis cattle and the home of the first American Quarter Horse, this is the real deal for cowboy aficionados. For new age atmosphere, head to Yin Yang Fandago & Tango Tea Room. Shop for unique clothing, relax under the care of a masseuse, partake of herbal tea, attend poetry slams, and eat from a tasty vegetarian menu at this hip shop.
